From
David's
Desk
When I was in
Kindergarten, I remember walking into the
classroom at the beginning of March and seeing
pictures of two animals pasted on the wall: a
lion and a lamb. It was later explained to me
that March is a month of unpredictable weather,
coming in like a the ferocious lion, and going
out like the meek and tender lamb.
As I grew up, that
particular mindset has stuck with me, and I have
meditated on it from many standpoints (mostly
because I analyze things too much, according to
my fiancée). However, both of those analogies,
the lion and the lamb, and used in the Bible to
describe Christ!
Revelation 5:5 refers to
Christ as "the Lion of the tribe of Judah". When
I think of a lion, I think of power, majesty,
and strength. I remember seeing "The Lion King"
when I was younger, and I remember regal Mufasa
standing on Pride Rock overlooking his vast
kingdom. This is how I picture the majesty of
Christ as he stands boldly and proudly as our
mighty king and lord!
However, John the Baptist
described Christ as "the Lamb of God, which
taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29).
When I picture a lamb, I see a creature that's
small, meek, and gentle. I see innocence. I see
grace. I see peace. However, back in that day, a
lamb was also a sacrifice for sin (Leviticus 4).
The lamb had to be without blemish or flaw, and
Christ, being God, became the perfect flawless
sacrifice of the sin of His children.
As we are on the dawn of
springtime in St. Louis, and we begin booking
concerts and events throughout the area, always
keep in mind the reason why we do what we do.
It's not about the music, or the fans, or the
CD's, or the performances. It's about Christ,
our lion, our lamb. It's about bringing His
gospel to this lost and dying community. It's
about using the talents and abilities He's given
us as musicians to bring honor and glory to His
name in all we say and do!
